Cover Reveal: Girl in Love by Caisey Quinn

I've been so privileged to work with Caisey Quinn on the cover of her third book in the Kylie Ryans series, Girl in Love. These books will always have a special place in my heart. The first one launched when I was just a writer and Caisey was a fan of mine who told me about this amazing book she'd written called Girl with Guitar. I told her she had to publish it and to put my money where my mouth was, I designed her a cover (it was supposed to be a temporary cover until she could afford a real designer) and formatted the book.

The book was a bestseller - my design efforts hadn't killed its chances there, and people started coming to me to ask for cover designs and formatting. And the rest is history. I started up E.M. Tippetts Book Designs and Caisey continued to kill it in the rankings and release one bestseller after another. I can't take any credit whatsoever for Caisey's talent, only for spotting how glaringly obvious it was. Being a part of her career launch has been a true privilege.

For the cover of Girl in Love, I can't take too much credit because Caisey had already picked the image and layout. As is often the case with her, it's a matter of noting her talent, helping get it into publishable format, and then getting out of the way ;-)

She's living her dream...

Kylie Ryans is the biggest thing to come out of Nashville since, well, since Trace Corbin. With a hit album and a powerful label behind her, she appears to be the girl who has it all.

But appearances can be deceiving.

Fresh out of rehab, Trace Corbin is ready to take on the world. Just not the girl he walked away from. Because if there's one thing he knows for certain, it's that the people you love are the ones who have the power to destroy you.

As their worlds collide, they'll have to make the ultimate choice. Follow their dreams, or give it all up for love.

They say love conquers all, but for Kylie and Trace, it just might wreck everything they've worked for.

KYLIE never expected to be stuck on a tour bus with a pampered princess and her boyfriend’s ex.
A troubled artist struggling to hold onto his career...

TRACE thought he was finally getting to do things his way. Until the label added co-headliner Gretchen Gibson, the only person in country music with more issues than him, to his No Apologies tour.

Because chasing your dreams and following your heart don’t always lead you to the same place…

Excerpt:

She pulled up the web browser on her phone and did the one thing Trace had told her never to do. She Googled herself. COUNTRY COUPLE UPDATE: IS THE HONEYMOON ALREADY OVER FOR CORBIN AND HIS LATEST FLING? She clicked the link and read the few lines talking about her and Trace. Her vision blurred but she could read the main points. All they do is argue, says a source close to Ryans. She scrolled down the screen. There was more. For a second, everything was tinged in red. They’d had one minor disagreement since being apart. Over Mia, who’d been listening in on her conversation. She’d put up with the crazy chick being cold and distant and sometimes downright hateful. But this was bullshit. And Kylie intended to tell her so. Below that was a link to another article. One that almost caused her to forget about the situation with Mia entirely. Almost. TROUBLED ARTISTS TRACE CORBIN & GRETCHEN GIBSON CELEBRATE THEIR UPCOMING CO-HEADLINING TOUR WITH A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN. She couldn’t even read the article because she was too distracted by the pictures. Her surroundings began to spin as bile rose in her throat. Her stomach clenched and her entire body tingled with a painful intensity similar to what she imagined being electrocuted would feel like. Struggling to swallow, she clicked on the album featuring the grainy photos of Trace and Gretchen. The first showed him checking her out while they played pool. The next one was of the woman licking Trace’s neck as they took body shots off one another. With each click Kylie’s heart pounded harder. Her hands trembled as she swallowed the lump in her throat and stared at the image of Trace holding Gretchen in his arms in the middle of a bar. There has to be an explanation. There has to be. She just hoped it wasn’t something along the lines of he was out having a good time, getting wasted with Gretchen Gibson, like he’d be doing for the entirety of his tour. Even though that was exactly what it looked like.

Launched! The Special Edition of Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn

Let me say up front that I did not design this cover. While I'm EXTREMELY flattered by people who think that I did, this is the work of Mae I Design, who has waaaay more design experience than I. I did the formatting, and it came right down to the wire as bug after bug plagued this file, but it was more than worth it!

This special edition release is available for a limited time. This edition includes the novella, Let You Leave. Because I'm Caisey's crit partner, as well as her formatter, I got to read the rough draft of Keep Me Still. As usual, it was disgustingly polished for a rough draft. I highly recommend! No surprise to me that it launched in the top 1,000 books on Amazon.

COVER REVEAL: Girl on Tour by Caisey Quinn

Caisey Quinn was the first person I ever designed a cover for (other than myself). Nervewracking as that was, it didn't seem to hurt her sales (phew) so that means I got to do the next one in the series! And yes, I got to beta read the book too, and yes, it is awesome. But first let's reveal that cover:

An up and comer trying to make a name for herself...KYLIE never expected to be stuck on a tour bus with a pampered princess and her boyfriend’s ex.

A troubled artist struggling to hold onto his career...

TRACE thought he was finally getting to do things his way. Until the label added co-headliner Gretchen Gibson, the only person in country music with more issues than him, to his No Apologies tour.

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

Excerpt

She cut the song off before the last chorus and opened her eyes. “Well?” she asked, looking up at Tonya. Who had tears in her eyes. “Whoa, hey, what’s wrong?”

“That was beautiful, really. It was like you knew my whole life story, which you don’t, thank God.”

“Thanks.” Kylie beamed.

“But you can’t play that tonight,” Tonya said evenly, dabbing her tears away with a bar napkin.

Her heart sank into her stomach. “I can’t?”

“No.” Kylie watched Tonya’s eyes harden as she gripped her shoulder. “Listen to me, kid. I know a few things. Like for one, your life’s goal is probably not to be a waitress in a honky tonk. And for two, I know that all you really want is to make it big in country music like every other kid in this town, and that’s all fine and good and I’ll say I knew you when. Matter of fact, hold up, sign this napkin.”

Kylie’s mouth gaped open at her friend’s blunt observations. And she was seriously
holding out a napkin and a pen. Slowly, Kylie took it and scribbled her name across it.

“But here’s what else I know. If you go play that sappy song that no one knows the words to, everyone will smile and nod and keep right on drinking. The managers and talent scouts that show will keep texting on their phones and someone somewhere might say, ‘That was a nice song,’ or ‘She was cute,’ and that will be it.”

“Okay, so…” Kylie was still too stunned to say much of anything. Tears threatened
behind her eyes. This was the song she’d worked so hard on, put so much of herself into. Wasn’t it a good thing to be original?

“So you get your cute little butt out there, you sing some Taylor Swift or Kelly whoever cover, and you shake it up and make it your own so the audience can sing along while not comparing you to whoever really sings the damn thing.”

“Oh, is that all? Well, that should be a piece of cake. Thanks for the advice.” Kylie rolled her eyes and left them focused on the ceiling so her tears wouldn’t fall.

“Look, you can sing, you play good enough. You’re kinda sexy and all that stuff they want. I wouldn’t waste my breath or my time, Kylie, if you didn’t just blow me the hell away, but I know this town. If this was your first day of meeting with a label exec, I’d say bust that song out. But this is a bar, and you need to get their attention fist. The guys who come in here are looking for one thing. Acts that bring in money. People want to hear that song that makes them stand up and sing along and stay up drinking and partying all night. Think you can do that?”

Kylie swallowed hard, pushed her tears back behind her eyes, and forced a smile. She’d grown up without a mother. Buried the only man she’d ever loved less than a year ago. Lost everything in the blink of an eye. Surely she could do this. “Yeah. Yeah I can.”

“Good, ‘cause no matter what they call it, this shit ain’t for amateurs.” Tonya stood, offering her a weak smile before leaving Kylie all alone to figure out what the hell she was going to do.
