How I Met J.D. Rivera

J.D. Rivera was one of my first clients here at E.M. Tippetts Book Designs. Talk about getting lucky! She and I met online while she was still writing Trying to Get Over You and when she was looking for beta readers, I was too swamped to do this myself but I was able to put her in touch with some others who could. She sent me the draft of her cover that she needed resized, and I found myself redesigning the whole thing and then sending her a sheepish email asking if that was okay. Lucky for me, she liked it, and had me design the final version of the cover with this image of holding hands and a park bench that you see above.

She then hired me to do the interior and we worked together to choose graphics and the layout. This is only the second book I've designed for someone else, inside and out, and when the book launched at 20,000th on Amazon, we were able to give each other pats on the back. That was a good launch for an unknown author and cover designer given the timeframes. Only, the story wasn't over yet. As I monitored the book from day to day, it started to climb. First to 10,000th, then to the 6,000's, up through the 5,000's and 4,000's. As I type this, it's in the 2,000's and still climbing. In a market climate where launch day usually determines your destiny, Trying to Get Over You is defying the odds and bucking the trend. This is only the first day of the blog tour, so it's clear, this book is moving via word of mouth, that ever elusive marketing force that we all strive to harness. J.D. Rivera has done it on her first try, in the first week!

And I couldn't be happier. It's been a sincere pleasure working with J.D. Since our first meeting we've been come friends, and I look forward to watching her career continue to blossom.
